Abstract

This research examines the potential geoeconomic and geopolitical trajectories for the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Insights were gathered through semi-structured interviews with key informants, including parliament members and international relations scholars from the Baltic states. Key findings include global-level trends regarding different outcomes of the war in Ukraine and participant perceptions of global hegemony. Local-level findings shed light on the most prominent geoeconomic and geopolitical developments in the Baltis states' since the full-scale invasion regarding the main economic sectors, defence and security and foreign policy. Finally, four main potential geoeconomic and geopolitical trajectories for the Baltic states are identified, namely, growing presence and activities in the international community, increased attention and credibility regarding Baltic states' expertise in Russian politics, the increased importance of conventional security and defence and enhanced economic and political cooperation among the Baltic states.
