Abstract

Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) is known as one of the biggest industries in the world that face many tensions in being sustainable. Increasingly, people realize its impact that causes harmful externalities to the environment. As a result, consumers are increasingly likely to demand sustainable products, which pressures a company to fulfil its demand. This case study took place in five listed multinational companies, which showed tensions in FMCG companies between economic profitability and environmental sustainability. A case study was conducted on the company's sustainability and annual reports for the last five years. Even though no one has achieved a win-win approach perfectly in the last five years, they did progressive change, which makes them in the right patch to be sustainable. By applying several changes, companies are on the right path to dealing with tension (in a specific environment). This case study presented how the company changed its business by putting the environmental problem a high priority in business. In terms of financial performance, this case study focuses on the internal and external party: shareholders, which leads to market appreciation of sustainability goals. Keywords: Environmental Performance; Tensions; Corporate Finance; Win-win
