Abstract
During my internship at Deloitte Risk Advisory B.V., I was part of the sustainability team at Deloitte Netherlands (NL) in Amsterdam, a prominent consulting firm within Deloitte North and South Europe. Sustainability is core to Deloitte's purpose, focusing on five Sustainable Development Goals: Quality Education (SDG 4), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), Climate Action (SDG 13), Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17). Deloitte NL has completed over 117 sustainability and corporate responsibility projects in the past year, demonstrating its commitment to a sustainable future through responsible business practices, societal contributions, and internal sustainability initiatives. The internship provided significant professional growth in project management, organisational skills, database management, communication, marketing, and budgeting. It reinforced the relevance of my Politics, Philosophy, and Economics major, particularly in corporate governance's role in sustainability. Engaging in projects like Chapter Zero Netherlands allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge from my courses to real-world scenarios. Interactions with both non-executive and executive directors provided invaluable insights, bridging the gap between theory and practical organisational leadership. This experience significantly enhanced my understanding of leadership and teamwork in driving positive change. Exposure to cutting-edge toolkits and sustainability policies highlighted the importance of a coordinated approach to corporate sustainability transitions. Deloitte’s publications and my involvement in the sustainability team placed me at the forefront of these efforts, solidifying my passion for leadership and commitment to a sustainable future.
