Abstract
Residential Energy Storage Systems (RESS) are essential for accelerating the energy transition, providing benefits such as optimised energy usage and grid stability. This research evaluated RESS technologies for the Dutch market, addressed gaps in the integration of sustainability, safety, and financial aspects, and assessed how these technologies can fit into the market. A quantitative literature review identified comparable specifications of relevant RESS technologies. Complementarily, the qualitative thematic analysis was employed to explore the product-market fit (PMF) of these RESS technologies. By comparing the customer criteria/profile with the value maps of lithium iron phosphate (LFP), lithium titanate (LTO), and sodium-ion technologies, the level of alignment was assessed. Results confirmed the product-market fit (PMF) for LFP, indicated a PMF for LTO, and stated that the level of PMF for sodium-ion RESSs is low at the time of writing. These results provided new insights into comparable relevant performance metrics of relevant RESSs, the broader consumer preferences of Dutch RESS customers, and the alignment between relevant RESSs and their target markets. Allowing companies in the RESS market to make informed and well-thought- out RESS technology decisions.
