Abstract

Due to the prevalence of sexual violence, women adopt certain behaviours in an attempt to mitigate the risk of sexual violence. Additionally, it describes findings obtained from a qualitative research project involving seven women who noted down the adaptive behaviours they noticed over the course of a week. According to the results obtained through this study, participants used different techniques to mitigate the possibility of sexual assault, which were then categorised into 6 overarching themes: Awareness, Appearance, Predictability, Community, Defense and Technology. The research underscores how the behaviours adopted by women relate to the Victim Selection Techniques employed by predatory rapists in terms of mitigating their ability to be percieved as vulnerable, and therefore, as a potential victim.
