Abstract
Although academic study has shed light on the organizational structure of franchising, more work has to be done in terms of comprehending this concept's relevance in the context of entrepreneurship and sustainability. This study creates and tests a model that explains how franchising performance affects these two categories. The model uses a parallel analysis for each activity area to characterize the measurement of this notion in the current environment. For this study, data from six franchising players (3 franchisors and 3 franchisees) were obtained from four distinct franchise chains in the Netherlands and Romania. The findings indicate trends that were utilized to construct a theoretical model that shows how different types of formal franchise networks may be used to maximize entrepreneurial behaviors by acquiring relational and informational capital, intra-system rivalry, and franchisee learning. However, the findings show that franchisors should carefully evaluate how they communicate changes to green practices to their franchisees in order to assure not just compliance, but also incentive to engage with stakeholders with whom they have regular encounters. This research adds to the body of knowledge on franchising, entrepreneurship and sustainability, as well as providing crucial management implications for practitioners.
