Abstract

To limit global warming below 1,5 degrees Celsius greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector must be drastically reduced, potentially by switching to electric vehicles. However, the adoption rate of electric vehicles is heavily dependent on overcoming the barriers that consumers face. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to identify which of the established barriers have the largest influence on switching to electric vehicles and how MHC Mobility can overcome these barriers. Reviewing the literature gave insight into the importance of regulations and incentives, while also laying the basic insights into the existing barriers. After, qualitative research was conducted in the form of eight semi-structured interviews. The findings of this research indicate that range, charging infrastructure, and purchase price form the main barriers that prevent MHC Mobility’s clients from adopting an electric vehicle. These should be overcome by educating clients, consistently making total costs of ownership calculations, and focusing on sustainable mobility through the MHC Mobility Card.
